Title - 15 coach suburban train on Slow Corridor soon

Western Railway has floated tenders related to extension of platforms between Andheri and Virar over Slow corridor. After extension of platforms, fifteen coach suburban trains will become a reality. Currently only fast corridor of Central and Western Railways can manage 15 coaches on single platform. While, platforms on slow corridor can only manage 12 coaches.

Railway is aiming to complete the work in a span of 2 years with an estimated cost of Rs 24 crore.

Longer trains can carry 25% more passengers. This will help daily commuters specially between Andheri and Virar where passenger's traffic is well above normal most of the time. 

Rail Official says that 15 coach train will not run beyond Andheri as there is no space to increase platform length between Mumbai Central and Churchgate. If 15-car services run beyond Andheri, Western Railway will have to provide double halts, which will affect punctuality of trains.
