Title - 2 students run over by train in Barnala as they kept listening to music with ear phones

Two students were run over by a train here as they kept listening to music with ear phones. These students were walking on a railway line and the train driver kept honking but they could not hear anything due to their ear phones. The students have been identified as Gagandeep, 20, and Iqbal Singh, 19, both studying in college.

Gagandeep died on the spot while Iqbal was rushed to DMC Ludhiana in a critical condition. 

The students are from SD College in Barnala. They got down from a mini bus at Kacheheri Chowk near Barnala and started walking towards their college at about 9:30 am. They were walking on the railway line. Both had put ear phones and were listening to music when a passenger train coming from Bathinda and going to Ambala ran over them. 

Eye witnesses of the accident stated that the train driver was honking time and again but the students could not hear anything. People who were standing close by also started shouting. Some people threw stones at the student but they still could not hear anything. 

As soon as the information about the two reached the police, DSP Harmeek Singh Deol, in-charge of the sadar police station Navdeep Singh, in-charge of the city police station Satish Kumar, along with a police party reached the spot. Principal of the college, Manohar Lal, Professor Bahadur Singh, Professor Shoaib Zafar, Professor Ashutosh Dharni, along with college students also reached the spot. GRP police station in-charge Jagjeet Singh stated that the body has been handed over to the family members. 

The college was closed down due to the unfortunate incident and the college principal has asked all the students to stay away from rail tracks.
