Title - 23 lakh ticketless travel cases booked by SCR

As many as 23 lakh cases of ticketless and irregular travel, and unbooked luggage were detected during  checking in the South Central Railway zone  during 2012-13, and an amount of around Rs 75 lakh was realised towards penalty, which was 20 percent more than the penalty levied in the previous year.

There were 9,62,662 cases of irregular travel (unauthorised change of class of travel, unauthorised change of passengers, travelling on transferred tickets, traveling without proper identity proof, etc) and  8,41,270 cases of unbooked luggage during the year. Interestingly, these cases were higher in number than  the ticketless travel cases which stood at 4,78,835.  According to chief public relations officer Sambasiva Rao, the number of cases of ticketless travel detected has registered an increase of 17 percent and that of irregular travel 25 percent whereas the un-booked luggage showed a decline of 0.18 percent when compared to 2011-12.
