NEW DELHI: Northern Railway has introduced 53 summer special trains this year but is still unsure if this will be enough to tackle the seasonal rush for the next two months. It will be running 2,100 trips of special trains from April 1 to June 30 up from the 1,900 it ran last year in addition to the regular mail and express trains to different destinations. This is the second highest in the past decade with 2,148 trips in 2011. However, railways are also looking at wait lists that show around 150 people waitlisted on popular routes which rises to around 300 in the weekends.Almost all trains have been attached with extra coaches, the number stood at 1,200 last month. "We decide on running new trains based on several factors - these include the state of waitlist, the passenger rush over the past few years and the availability of extra coaches. There is every possibility that we will increase the present number of trains run by Northern Railway from 18 (out of a total of 53) to at least 25,'' said a senior officer.
