With the aim to ensure safe travel of women passengers in trains, the Government Railway Police (GRP), Student Police Cadets  (SPC) and Sakhi, a NGO, on Monday jointly conducted an awareness campaign at the Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway station.

The programme covered the issues of safety, security and dignity of women passengers.

As part of the drive, 30 student police cadets distributed pamphlets to all passengers including women who arrived at the station and also sensitised the passengers on the issue.

“There is a problem of attitude towards women passengers and this should be changed. Drunkards pose a severe problem and a drive against this has been on since August 1. We would continue the campaign till August 10,’’ said GRP superintendent C H Nagaraju, who inaugurated the campaign in the station at 9 am.

The drive was simultaneously organised in the main railway stations in the state and where railway police stations are present.
