Title - Better CCTV cover for Pune station

PUNE: The Pune railway station is set to get 44 advanced CCTV surveillance cameras installed on its premises as part of the upgradation of the monitoring and security system.

Besides the Pune station, the railway administration has also planned to bring other prominent stations like Shivajinagar, Kolhapur and Miraj under CCTV surveillance, said outgoing divisional railway manager (Pune division) Vishal Agarwal on Thursday.

"The CCTV cameras , under the new system, will have additional features and advanced functions. The installation work is likely to start in next two to three months. The old CCTV cameras will be installed at Shivajinagar and Kolhapur stations," Agarwal said.

Addressing a news conference here, Agarwal said besides the upgradation of the surveillance system, the administration has also planned other projects for the benefit of the passengers. "There are plans to construct two more foot over bridges (FoBs) at the stationin addition to the existing two FOBs. One of them has been planned between platform one and three and the construction work is expected to start in October. Four automatic escalators have also been planned near the FoBs to help the senior citizens," Agarwal said.

He said the administration also wants to reduce traffic congestion outside the station and will soon be coming out with some changes related to the existing entry and exit gates of the station. "A proposal is already in place to start additional parking slot near the station for both two-wheelers and four-wheelers, as the existing parking space if insufficient. The administration has initiated the tender process for the new parking slot," Agarwal said.

He said the railway administration also wants to extend the working hours of the reservation booking counters across the city located in the city on Sundays. At present, the counters do not open for the second shift (2pm to 8 pm) on Sundays. The administration recently initiated steps to extend the Sunday working hours of the booking counters located at Pune station.

Agarwal added that the administration recently appointed a private agency to clean the premises of the station.
