Bengaluru: In a case that shows scant respect for human dignity, the body of an unidentified man was left unattended for more than 24 hours near the busy car park at the Bengaluru city railway station in Majestic. Though the staff of the parking area informed the police, none of them turned up at the spot till the evening.

The man aged around 45 years reportedly came near the parking area located next to platform number 5 on Tuesday morning. Ramu, a coolie, who noticed the body, said, “I don’t know from where he came.

But he looked very weak and ill. He was exhausted and sat on a trolley. I did not speak to him the whole day though he was sitting there. On Wednesday morning, he developed complications and we gave him water. After that, I went and brought food for him. Before he could eat it, his condition deteriorated and he passed away at 8 am.”

The matter was brought to the notice of parking area contractor, Basha, who reportedly informed the railway police twice on Tuesday. But allegedly, no cop turned up. It is also alleged that some of the traffic cops were informed about this and they did not bother to inform the police concerned.

When DC called up the City Railway police station around 1.30 pm on Thursday and informed them about the incident, the policeman who answered the call said that they should receive a memo from the station master about the death and only then could they act.

“Anyway, we will inform the station master about this and will take further action,” he said before hanging up the phone. It was only around 5.45 pm the policemen arrived on the scene and shifted the body around 7 pm
