Chennai: The police are hunting for two persons who had threatened to hijack train engines from a city railway station and trigger blasts in the city on the lines of what took place in Hyderabad.

Police received a letter purportedly written by a little-known pro-Eelam group Tamizhar Veera Padai.

The railway police had increased security at the Egmore railway station on Wednesday night following receipt of a letter, purportedly written by pro-Eelam group Tamilar Veera Padai, threatening to hijack train engines. Police said it was taking no chances and security had been strengthened as a matter of caution.

A letter received at the Egmore railway station, from where most of the south-bound trains depart, say that the group would carry out the hijack by Friday and set the train engine on fire to show the anger against the UPA- led government at the centre on the Sri Lanka Tamils issue.

The group said in the letter that they would remove the couplings and set the engine on fire, sources said.

“The letter had specified three trains which the group was planning to hijack. The letter had also warned they would execute it on or before Friday,” sources said. The city police cyber crime teams are trying to locate the anonymous caller who called up the control room on Wednesday afternoon to tell the cops that a bomb world explode in the city, on the lines of the Hyderabad blasts a month back.
