Title - Cabinet permits use of railway land for Metro crossings, schools

The Union Cabinet yesterday approved a proposal to permit the use of land owned by the Railways for crossing Metro networks, whether underground, on the surface or elevated.

An official press release said the Railways would also allow opening of Kendriya Vidyalayas on their land to provide adequate educational facilities to children of railway staff and officials placed in remote areas, and where educational institutions are not adequate.    Exchange of railway land with Central/State governments, department/local bodies for setting up public utilities shall also be entered into by the Indian Railways, wherever considered mutually beneficial, the release added.
