CHENNAI:A public interest litigation petition has been filed in the Madras High Court seeking implementation of the Central rule of reservation in recruitment in the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL).The First Bench, comprising Acting Chief Justice R.K. Agrawal and Justice N. Paul Vasanthakumar ordered notice on the petition. The petitioner, M. Palanimuthu, an advocate, said that the CMRL was a joint venture of the Centre and the Tamil Nadu government. On January 1 this year, it issued an advertisement for recruitment of Station Controller/Train Operator/Jr. Engineer (stations) etc. The company was implementing the State government’s rule of reservation which was highly arbitrary and was against social justice. The CMRL should follow only the Central rule of reservation in the matter of recruitment which was 22.5 per cent for SC/STs and 27 per cent for OBCs.Mr. Palanimuthu said the written examination is to be conducted on March 31. He prayed the court for a direction to the authorities to withdraw the advertisement, modify it and reissue the vacancy notification.
