The Ramanathapuram District Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Ramanathapuram Chamber of Commerce have urged the Southern Railway to revise the timings of trains on the Rameswaram-Madurai-Chennai route.Asmabagh Anwardeen and B.Jagadeesan, presidents of the respective bodies, in separate statements issued here on Wednesday, said the existing timings caused inconvenience to passengers travelling from Rameswaram to Madurai and Chennai and vice versa.Madurai-Rameswaram Passenger (Train No.56721), which left Madurai at 12.05 a.m, could be rescheduled to leave Madurai at 9.15 p.m. for the convenience of passengers arriving at Madurai on Vaigai Express to continue their journey to Rameswaram, they said.On the return journey, the train could be made to leave Rameswaram at 3 a.m., instead of 12.05 a.m. for the benefit of Chennai-bound passengers to reach Madurai on time to catch Vaigai Express, they said.

Similarly, the Chennai-Rameswaram Express (Train no.16713) should be rescheduled to leave Rameswaram at 7 p.m., instead of 5 p.m. for the convenience of passengers and the Rameswaram-Chennai Express (Train no.16714) at 7 p.m., instead of 8 p.m. (from Rameswaram), so that the passengers could reach Chennai early, they said.

The two sets of Express trains running between Chennai and Rameswaram should be given identical names to avoid confusions, they said.
