Mysore, June 28 - A new parking space at the west-end block of Mysore Railway Station (CFTRI side) was inaugurated by Vinod Kumar, Divisional Railway Manager, South Western Railway, Mysore, this morning.

Speaking to reporters, DRM Vinod Kumar said that the new parking facility would immensely benefit rail users for buying tickets in the west-end block, besides bringing down the pressure on the main parking lot opposite the Railway Station.

He further said that the parking area, developed at a cost of Rs. 25 lakh, will fetch the Railways a license fee of about Rs. 40,000 per month in the trial period of three months. A regular tender will be called in the intervening period, he said.

Vinod Kumar also stated that the Railways have requested the State Police to operate a prepaid auto counter at the west end block also, so that the passengers arriving by late night trains not only feel safe but also avoid over-charging by auto drivers.

The DRM also mentioned that the work on the proposed subway connecting Platform No.1 with the remaining five platforms would be taken up soon.

Vinod Kumar has urged the PWD to immediately remove the obstruction on KRS Road at the entrance of Mysore Railway Station (CFTRI side) which is remaining there even after the road widening work.

He stated that it was not safe for vehicle users as the visibility is affected because of its presence. Some loose electrical cables of the electric pole in the area also need to be removed to prevent possible electrocution during rainy season.

The new parking space could accommodate up to 700 two-wheelers and three dozens of four-wheelers.

Addl. DRM Dr. Rakesh Gupta, K. Anil Kumar, Sr. Divisional Commercial Manager, Ranganath, Sr. Divisional Engineer and other Sr. Railway officials were present on this occasion.
