Waiting for the green signal
The long cherished dream of the people of Kota in Rajasthan is yet to get the green signal, so to speak. A new rail route between Kota and Jhalawar was announced in the last Railway Budget, but the service is yet to begin, caught as it is in a clash of royal egos.
The Congress MP from Kota, Ijyarj Singh and the BJP MP from Jhalawar Dushyant Singh are fighting over who should flag off the train, which was to chug off in the last week of March.
Mr Ijyraj Singh is from the erstwhile Kota royal family and his supporters call him Maharaj Kumar. Mr Dushyant Singh is a scion of the former princely state of Dholpur. Supporters of Mr Dushyant Singh say that he should be given the honour because his mother and former chief minister Vasundhara Raje made stenuous efforts to get the railway ministry to start the train. But supporters of Mr Ijyaraj Singh insist that the he should do the honours.
While the blue-bloods squabble like children, the people for whom the service is meant have to suffer.
