Platform No. 1 of Ranchi railway station is shut for 45 days from Thursday for the laying of washable apron under tracks that were so far supported by worn-out concrete beams over 50 years old. The initiative will help keep tracks litter-free. For the entire tenure of construction, trains ' Ranchi-Delhi Rajdhani Express, Ranchi-Delhi Garibrath Express, Hatia-Patna Express, Maurya Express, Baidyanathdham Express, Sampark Kranti Express, Jharkhand Express, among others ' that normally run from platform No. 1, will leave from Nos. 2, 3, 4 and 5. "This work should be complete in a month and a half. Till then, we will run passenger trains mostly from platforms 2 and 3," said additional divisional railway manager Sunil Kumar. "Platform No. 2 will be used for trains that begin trips from Hatia station. Platform No. 3 will be used for the rest of the passenger trains that either originate from or reach Ranchi. Platforms 4 and 5 will be used mostly for good trains, which was the case earlier," Kumar added. Labourers engaged by the railways have started uprooting the tracks and beams. "Tracks so far were mounted on concrete beams on uneven ground, which made the area unsuitable for washing. This new initiative will even out the area surrounding and in-between the tracks to facilitate washing. Tracks will stay clean," said an engineer engaged in the work. Once complete, a similar initiative will be taken at Hatia station. |
