Pune to Howrah Duronto Superfast Express averted a major accident near Raigarh Tuesday afternoon even as a cow crossing the rail track was caught in the shafts of its engine after being hit by the train some distance away from the station forcing it to apply emergency brakes.The train remained stationary for nearly two hours on Kelo Bridge ahead of Chakradhar Nagar railway crossing leading to disruption of traffic on this section for nearly two hours, railway sources said.According to sources, the Howrah bound Duronto Express came to a screeching halt after just a few minutes it crossed the Raigarh railway station in full speed.Even after taking emergency brakes the train reached in the middle of Kelo River Bridge. Due to the sudden halt and the consequent jerks panic like situation prevailed among the passengers who were anxious to know why the train stopped abruptly in a hilly forested area.A passenger travelling in Duronto said, a cow was hit by the train while crossing the track and its body was stuck in the shaft of the train’s engine and had damaged the hosepipe due to which the train stopped suddenly. After getting information, railway staff reached the spot from Raigarh station and extricated the body of the animal stuck in the engine, which took nearly 2 hours. Only after that the train commenced its onward journey. | ||
