A seven-year-old spotted deer that strayed into the railway track late Monday evening was run over by a train near the Adyar river at Saidapet. This is the second such incident in the past 10 days. The carcass was recovered by Mambalam Railway Protection Force (RPF) and handed over to the forest department on Tuesday.

“The deer, possibly headed towards Adyar river to drink water, was run over while it was passing through the railway track around 9.30 pm. Similarly, another spotted deer was crushed to death by an Electric Multiple Unit (EMU), on May 2,” an RPF officer said.

“Five spotted deer have been crushed under the wheels of trains between Saidapet and Guindy stations in the past two years,” the officer added.
