Title - Ernakulam Junction station to get traditional look

In order to develop the Ernakulam Junction railway station in traditional style, the Railways will hold discussions with various stakeholders.

 Talks will also be held with local people’s representatives, Railway passengers associations, resident associations and vendors so that the station can be renovated in a way that reflects the traditional culture of Kerala, said  K V Thomas, Union Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies.

He was speaking at the inaugural function of the renovated railway concourse and the waiting hall at the Ernakulam Junction station on Monday. 

“The station will be upgraded in world class standards. The station should represent the tradition of Kerala,” the Union Minister added. Currently, KITCO has been entrusted with the responsibility of preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Ernakulam Junction station. The DPR wil be submitted within three months, he added. “Once the DPR is completed, we will be able to finalise the complete estimate for the renovation of the station,” DRM said.

  The inauguration was also part of the Railway Week celebrations which began here at the station.  As part of the Railway Week celebrations, an art workshop on ‘Architecture, Ambience and Amenities’ began on Monday. School students from standard seven upwards were given a tour of the railway station and asked to use their imagination to draw their own perceptions of the railway station. The paintings will be exhibited at the station on Tuesday.

The best drawings may be incorporated in the future design of the railway station, DRM Rajesh Agarwal added.  The programme is being jointly organised with the Kochi Biennale Foundation. Co-curator of the Kochi Bienale Riyas Komu was also present. Exhibition of stamps, display on cochin state railways history etc were also there.
