Title - Fill vacancies, says SRMU

Southern Railway Mazdoor Union (SRMU) has urged the railway administration to fill up the vacancies in trackmen category and create additional gatekeeper posts.In a memorandum to the Southern Railway General Manager, union divisional secretary P. Palanivel has said that the number of vacancies in trackmen category was 2,241 as per the “Rational Formula” advised by Railway Board. But there were only 740 trackmen.Many new level-crossing gates have been set up without creating corresponding gatekeeper-posts for manning them.The union has sought creation of more posts of gatekeepers besides filling up existing vacancies.
