None of the CCTV cameras covered the bag's location

The Guntur Government Railway Police (GRP) investigating the detonators case has not ruled out the role of terrorist groups in the detonators case. Police suspect that the terrorists might have conducted a trial on the possibility of carrying the explosives into the station and the alertness of the police. The GRP seized 175 detonators packed in a bag on Platform No. 2 on Guntur railway station on May 7. The special team under the supervision of Vijayawada Superintendent of Railway Police (SRP) Ch. Syam Prasad is trying to identify the place of manufacture and make of the ammunition. Help is being taken of other government departments involved in Explosives Safety and the licensing organisations. The South Central Railway (SCR) authorities had installed 34 Closed Circuit Cameras in Guntur Railway Station, but none of them covered the location where the bag was placed. “In many incidents, terrorist groups have used detonators to trigger blasts. The miscreants who abandoned the bag on the platform might have alighted the Inter City Express Train which comes via Nalgonda. Police is investigating how the accused managed to avoid all the CC cameras,” said an investigating officer.

“We are probing the case from all angles. Once the place of manufacturing is identified, we will focus on who the explosives were being delivered to and on which date the consignment was made. However, it is clear that the detonators were manufactured recently,” Mr. Syam Prasad told The Hindu .

“Police verified the footages of 34 cameras, but it is of no use. We suspect something and are verifying whether the cameras were arranged at the correct points or not,” said the SRP and expressed confidence in detecting the culprits soon.
