The South district police have busted a gang of train robbers and carjackers, with the arrest of five miscreants, including the leader of the gang, who, police claim, is a close associate of infamous carjacker, Manoj Bakkarwala.

With the arrest, police claims to have solved several cases of vehicle thefts and robbery in trains. Police recovered one pistol with 11 live bullets, a dagger and six robbed cars from the arrested persons.

A senior police official said the arrested robbers have been identified as Rattan Chopra alias Pakistani (33) the gang leader and close associate of Bakkarwala, Jitender (28),  Chander Prakash (27) Sonu Singh (25) and Amit (27). All of them had recently come out of jail and formed the gang, said police.

A police officer said, Jitender is famous among his gang members as ‘Raghu Bhai’, as he has tattooed this name in Hindi on his right arm after being inspired by the character of a don played by a Bollywood actor in a bollywood movie.

Chhaya Sharma, DCP (south), said the arrest came following investigation conducted in a recent case of vehicle theft where some assailants had robbed a man of his Innova car in Vasant Kunj area on knifepoint. “Prakash, a convict in a murder case who jumped parole, was the first to be held alongwith Singh when they were caught in a robbed Santro car in Malviya Nagar area,” said Sharma.
