Pune: India’s first superfast train Deccan Queen celebrated its 83rd anniversary on Saturday with a special function organized at Pune Central railway station to commemorate its continuous operation since June 1, 1930. Thousands thronged to the railway station to witness mass celebrations, which also saw a specially-ordered 83 kg cake to signify the years in service of the train also known as ‘Lifeline of Pune’. Speaking on the occasion, Railway Overseas Board president Harsh Shah noted that the train had ‘created a special place in hearts of Pune people’. “Just see how many people travel daily from Pune to Mumbai in this train. It is, indeed, the lifeline of both students and workers who commute to Mumbai daily,” he added. |
