INDORE: The much awaited Indore- Yeshwantpur express was flagged off by union minister of state for power, JyotiradityaScindia here on Sunday. The weekly train will connect Indore with Bangalore.

Speaking on the occasion, Scindia said that frequency of the train may be increased in the near future. "Better connectivity through the train and the international airport in the city will open avenues for the city's development," he said.

Talking to media persons, Scindia said that a fund of Rs 4,500 crore has been sanctioned for Madhya Pradesh to generate power, which includes Rs 2,380 crore for Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Vidhyutikaran Yojna in the rural region of the state. "Around 52 plans under the scheme will run in the rural villages for which fund has been sanctioned and for urban region, fund of Rs 2,200 crore has been sanctioned. Nearly Rs 55,000 crore wil be invested in the state to set up new power plants in Barethi (Banda district), Khargone and Gadarwara National Thermal Power Corporation ( NTPC) has undertaken the projects.

Meanwhile, the much awaited Habibganj- Indore double decker is likely to due to technical differences between Commission of Railway Safety (CRS) and Research Design and Standard Organisation (RDSO), Lucknow. Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Lokesh Narayan told CRS has sought information from the RDSO like on various technical points. Once the CRS will give clearance, keeping in mind the highest safety standards, then only nod will be given. On a tentative date, he said that once the process is competed between CRS and RDSO, and as and when the report is submitted to the ministry, a date could be zeroed on.

Demonstrations for train to Darbhanga

A number of people under the banner of the Poorvottar Bharatiya Sanskritik Sansthan staged a demonstration at the railway station demanding starting of a direct train connecting Indore and Darbhanga, increasing the frequency of Indore-Patna express to daily and a train between Indore and Guwahati via Patna and Bhagalpur. Thakur Jagdish Singh, who led the demonstrators, met Scindia and made the demands.
