Title - Kanpur zoo soon to receive toy train for children

KANPUR: The map of the upcoming toy train route has been released by the Kanpur zoo authorities on its newly developed website. The map shows the route through which the four-coach train will pass. It is worth to mention here that the Kanpur zoo is close to commission a Bal Rail Train System (BRTS) or toy train. The train is expected to get commissioned next year and will run within the zoo premises spread in a an area of 76.5 hectares. The train, travelling a distance of around 5 km will cover a maximum number of animal enclosures.

According to the route map, the toy train will pass across the face of the lake (spread in an area of 18 hectares in zoo) and enter into the forest area of the zoo giving the visitors an opportunity to view the natural beauty of the zoo. Visitors will also be able to see Deer Safari developed and opened for morning walkers by the zoo authorities in the month of May this year.

The UP Nirman Nigam, which has been entrusted with the work of commissioning of the BRTS, will be making three bridges for the train to run over the lake. The Kanpur zoo administration is making ell efforts to cause least damage to the green cover of the zoo while working on this project. It is being ensured that no green tree is felled by the engineers of UP Nirman Nigam while constructing the bridge over the lake due to which three bridges will be constructed. The largest bridge would be made over the lake.

If everything goes well, the visitors of Kanpur zoo, especially children, will be able to enjoy ride in the toy train by next year. The train will commence its journey from the entrance gate of the zoo and will pass through 50 animal enclosure showcasing over 1400 zoo inmates.

K Thomas, director, Kanpur zoo said funds of Rs 14.5 crore for the commissioning of the toy train has been sanctioned by the state government and by June next year, the train will probably be on the tracks. He added apart from the construction of the bridges, tracks will be laid down and a station would also be made for boarding the train. He further said the train will stop at three stations during its 5 km long journey. Three stations will be made in the zoo premises for the same. The zoo officials said the UP Nirman Nigam has started construction work with plaster of the zoo boundary walls of the zoo under the first phase of the work. The work will pick pace after the monsoon season.
