While the piers are surfacing in more locations on two of the three proposed metro rail routes in the twin cities – L.B. Nagar to Miyapur and Nagole to Shilparamam, a down ramp for bringing the trains into the depot is underway at Nagole terminal point.Currently, the ramp is in place at the prescribed four degree incline and soon a viaduct too will be built on the same lines on the service road from the main viaduct. This is to enable the elevated metro rails to be brought down to the ground level in a slow speed and in the reverse direction.

Maintenance

Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) Managing Director N.V.S. Reddy explained that the metro rails once operational and running and up down from dawn to probably late into the night will be brought gradually down across the ramp into the depot for maintenance and cleaning.“The depot will be equipped with automatic cleaning machines and overhauling of the coaches will also be taken up. It will be a highly saturated area and out of bounds for outsiders,” he said.

Dewatering pumps

With regard to measures being taken at the metro piers construction sites in the monsoon, he said that sufficient number of dewatering pumps have been arranged at various sites.

Special rescue teams in all disciplines have been identified and are ready for deployment to tackle rains related issues cropping up. De-watering of the foundation pits is being done to the nearest drain to prevent water flowing onto the main roads.

All power distribution boards and plug points have been covered to prevent short circuits.

Workers’ concerns

The MD said that the concessionaire – L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad (L&TMRH) has provided rain coats and shoes to all workers in additional to the regular personal protection equipment.
