Title - New Rail Line in Tripura now open, will connect Bangladesh

A new rail line beyond Agartala to temple city of Udaipur is now open after inauguration by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu. The inauguration took place through video conferencing from New Delhi in the presence of eminent people at Agartala station. This new rail line is very important for railways which will open up new opportunities for everyone. Here are some of the salient features of the newly built 44.76km of rail line which is also a part of Agratala – Sabroom broad gauge line project –

  • The anticipated cost of the Agartala-Sabroom project is Rs. 3,351 crore and it is expected to complete by March 2019.
  • Bishalgarh, Bishramganj and Udaipur will act as three stations on this line.
  • There are 58 road crossings and 87 major and minor bridges.
  • In order to secure access to the Chittagong port in Bangladesh connectivity to Sabroom is very important.
  • The last border town of Tripura is Sabroom from where the sea port is just 75km away.
  • The entire northeast India would be linked with Southeast Asia once the Sabroom rail connectivity is established.

Apart from rail connectivity National Highway-8, has already been extended up to Sabroom, 135 km south of Agartala.
