Kerala News: Mangalore: New Tirunelveli-Dadar weekly train via Kerala, Karnataka from May 1. The Ministry of Railways will introduce a new weekly between Tirunelveli and Dadar on the Konkan Railway Route with immediate effect.


The new train 22630 will operate from Tirunelveli from May 1 and train 22629 from Dadar from May 3.

While 22629 will run as a weekly train on regular basis from. Dadar every Friday, 22630 will operate from Tirunelveli every Wednesday.

Train 22629 will depart from Dadar at 8.40 pm and reach Tirunelveli at 4 am on the third day and 22630 will depart from Tirunelveli at 7.10 am and reach Dadar at 3.10 pm the next day.

The trains will halt at Thane, Panvel, Roha, Chiplun, Ratnagiri, Kankavali, Thivim, Madgaon, Karwar, Honnavar, Udupi, Thokur, Mangalore Junction, Kannur, Kozikode, Shoranur, Palakkad, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, Karur, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudunagar and Kovilpatti. The train will have 16 coaches.

The much anticipated Tirunelveli - Dadar Weekly Superfast Express is all set to become operational from May 1. According to a statement from the Southern Railway (SR), the train will run through the Konkan region. The announcement has cheered rail users in the region as they will be getting a direct connectivity to Konkan for the first time.

"We are glad that we will be getting direct connectivity to Konkan route, especially to Goa. Till now, there is no direct train to Goa and the Konkan region, but this will greatly boost tourism inflow between two tourism destinations of Madurai and Goa," said S P Jeyapragasam, former member of Divisional Rail Users Consultative Committee.

The train will be beneficial for traders and businessmen trying to reach Mumbai for business purposes as well, said A Rasheel Mohideen, former member of Zonal Rail Users Consultative Committee from Dindigul. "There is a train running between Nagercoil - Mumbai at present and this additional train through Konkan, which will be a new route, will be very useful," he stated.

S Chandramauli, vice-president of Tirunelveli Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that there is a greater demand for connectivity to Mumbai and good traffic in trains running on this section at present. "We feel this line through Konkan will be less congested and we will be able to get more bookings for this train. People from Tirunelveli are involved in various business - both small and big in Mumbai and more number of trains mean more connectivity for us," Chandramauli added.

According to the SR statement, train number 22630 Tirunelveli - Dadar Weekly Superfast Express will be introduced from Tirunelveli on May 1, while 22629 Dadar - Tirunelveli Express will start from Dadar on May 3. The train will leave Tirunelveli at 7.10am on Wednesdays and reach Dadar at 3.10pm on Thursdays. In the return direction, it will leave Dadar at 8.40pm on Fridays and reach Tirunelveli at 4am on Sundays. The composition of the trains will be 1 AC 2-tier, 1 AC 3-tier, 6 second class sleeper, 6 general second class and 2 luggage-cum-brake van coaches. The trains will halt at Kovilpatti, Virudhunaga, Madurai, Dindigul, Karur, Erode, Tirupur, Coimbatore, Palakkad, Shoranur, Kozhikode, Kannur, Mangalore Junction, Udupi, Honnavar, Karwar, Madgaon, Thivim, Kankavli, Ratnagiri, Chiplun, Roha, Panvel and Thane.
