Title - NORTHERN RAILWAY HONOURS FOUR EMPLOYEES THROUGH SAFETY AWARDS

In keeping with the practice of honoring employees, whose alertness and prompt action have resulted in averting a possible accident, through Safety Awards, Northern Railway honoured the services of four of its employees through Safety Awards at a ceremony held at Northern Railway Headquarters Office, Baroda House, New Delhi on 01.05.2013. The Safety awards were presented by Shri V.K.Gupta, General Manager, Northern Railway. Also present on this occasion were Sh. Gyan Prakash Srivatsava, Chief Safety Officer, Northern Railway and the Principal Heads of all departments of Northern Railway.The four employees who were felicitated by the General Manager for their services are: Sh.Harbansh Singh, Loco Pilot, Delhi Division; Shri Prem Nath, Cabinman, Lucknow Division; Shri Madan Lal, Loco Pilot, Firozpur Division & Shri Narendra Singh, Assistant Loco Pilot, Firozpur Division.

Attentive working enabled Sh. Harbansh Singh, Loco Pilot, Nizamuddin of Delhi Division apply the emergency brakes in time on 12.03.2013 when he was working in a EMU train. He observed rail fracture on railway track at Tughlakabad. Through timely action and quick application of mind, a serious derailment of EMU train has been averted & enabled to save the lives of passengers as well as prevent damage to railway property.

Going beyond his brief of duties, good diligence and presence of mind enabled Shri Prem Nath, Cabinman, Utraitia, Lucknow Division to avert a major derailment/accident enroute of Sadbhavana train with high speed on 31.03.2013. During the inspection, he observed that one axle Box in the train was producing smoke and flame. He immediately informed to Assistant Station Master, Utraitia for stopping the train. Quick relay of this information to the driver of the train and prompt attendance to the problem avert a possible major accident of the Sadbhavana Express train.

Attention to detail, presence of mind and intense concentration to dutiesenabled Shri Madan Lal. Loco Pilot/Mail & Shri Narendra Singh, Assistant Loco Pilot, Ludhiana under Firozpur division apply the emergency brakes in time when they observed that Manned Gate no. B-2/17 between Mullanpur-Baddowal station of Firozpur- Ludhiana section was in open condition and a loaded truck was passing through as the Train no. 12044 Moga- New Delhi Shatabdi Express Train to pass through the section on 06.04.2013. Through their quick action in slamming the brakes, the train could be stopped just before the Level Crossing and a severe collision was avoided saving the lives of rail passengers and road users as well as prevent damage to railway property.

The meritorious contributions of all the above named staff were highly appreciated by the General Manager.
