As many as 9,435 persons have been fined for spitting and littering the railway premises as part of the massive awareness campaign on cleanliness organised by the East Coast Railway. An amount of Rs.6,21,400 has been collected as fine so far, according to an official release.Spitting and littering would entail a fine of Rs.100 at ‘A1’ Class Stations such as Visakhapatnam, Bhubaneswar, and Puri, Rs.50 at ‘A’ Class Stations such as Bhadrak, Brahmapur, Cuttack, Jajpur-Keonjhar Road, Khurda Road, Palasa, Rayagada, Srikakulam Road, Vizianagaram, and Sambalpur, and Rs.30 will be charged at other stations under the jurisdiction of the East Coast Railway. The fine, with a view to discouraging spitting and littering, may be doubled soon and could be enhanced up to Rs. 500.No person shall throw or deposit litter in any occupied and unoccupied railway premises or the carriage in authorised places or cook, bathe, spit, urinate, defecate, feed animals/birds, repair or wash vehicles, wash utensils/clothes or any other objects, according to the new Rule 2012 of the Indian Railways. |
