Passengers of a train plying between Bangarpet, Kolar and Bangalore resorted to a snap protest at Bangalore East station in Frazer Town, preventing the train they were travelling in from continuing on its route for more than an hour on Friday. As a result, rail traffic on the route was disrupted and thousands of passengers delayed.Ironically, the protest was against their train running late by 10 minutes!
The Kolar-Bangalore passenger(76506)had arrived on schedule at Bangalore East at 9.30 am,but the train was halted for 10 minutes to allow an express train to go ahead. However, when the green signal was not given 10 minutes later, some passengers began protesting.
Railway sources at the station said, "The protest became serious and the passengers prevented the same train they were travelling in from moving on. Some of the passengers got on to the tracks and even after the signal turned green, the train could not proceed."
For over 70 minutes — till 10.40 am — the train was halted at the station, blocking the tracks and preventing other trains from arriving and departing the city. Railway Protection Force (RPF) staff eventually got into action and cleared the tracks. Four persons—Iliyaz,Balakrishna (both from Bangarpet), Madhukumar and Nagabhushana (both from Malur) — were arrested. S Louis Amuthan, senior divisional security of RPF said an FIR had been registered and the four were produced before the IV ACMM court.
