Posted by : puneetmafia on Feb 16, 2013 - 06:00:39 AM

A major accident was averted on Thursday morning when three big stones were found on the Railway track just before the  Thiruvananthapuram-bound Maveli Express was about to pass the Railway gate at Konthuruthy near here.

A case has been registered with the Ernakulam South Police and a probe is on.

According to the police, the stone was placed on the track near the Railway gate without an intent to derail the train.

The police said that they have taken the statement of the gatekeeper who informed that   a few people regularly sit near the gate till late night. The police suspect that the stones were placed to remove the gatekeeper for keeping the gates closed at night.

“The incident took place at 2.45 am. The gatekeeper, who noticed stones placed over the   track, immediately informed the Railway control room. “The train was stopped before it  reached the Konthuruthy gate. We are interrogating some of the locals here. The people behind the incident would be taken into custody soon,” the police said.
