Union Minister K V Thomas on Sunday said that the Nettoor railway overbridge will be made a reality soon and a total of Rs 3  crore has  been allotted for the project.

He was speaking about the upcoming developmental projects in the Maradu municipality.

K V Thomas said since the ROB is an immediate need, the project will be completed as early as possible. Once, the detailed sketch of the proposed ROB prepared by the Roads and Bridges Development Corporation of Kerala, Ltd (RBDCK) gets the nod, the construction of the ROB will begin,” the Minister said. Excise Minister K Babu presided over the function.

Maradu Municipal chairman T K Devarajan detailed about the ‘Pakkal Veedu’ project and said they have decided to launch the project to extend a helping hand to the elderly in the colony. “The elder ones in most of the families are lonely and neglected. Contrary to the usual old-age homes, the ‘Pakkal Veedu’ will address the problems and loneliness of the elderly without severing their links with their families. The elderly can use the ‘veedu’ whenever they want,” the chairman said.

He said that the project will be completed within a year. “The 800-square feet building will be constructed using `14.5 lakh allotted by K V Thomas. Other facilities will be arranged using the plan fund of the municipality. Adequate food and medical check-ups, along with activities for mental alertness and spiritual growth, will be ensured,” he added.

Councillors Antony Ashanparambhil, P A Abdul Majeed Master, Ajitha Managua and Gracy Simon were also present.
