Title - Rail roko hits train services in Assam
Posted by : riteshexpert on Jun 19, 2012 - 18:00:26 PM

Train services in Assam were severely affected today as a 'rail roko' programme, demanding a separate Kamatapur state, forced all trains to be controlled at various places.

All trains going as well as coming to the state had been stopped at various stations, while many had been controlled at the point of origin.

Among the trains regulated were Rajdhani Express at New Bongaigaon and Kamrup Express at Rangiya, while the New Delhi-bound North East Express had been delayed at Guwahati itself.

The South-bound trains had also been regulated at various points.

A Northeast Frontier Railway spokesperson said the trains will resume journey after the local administration ensures safety and security of the passengers.

Squatters had blocked railway tracks at Nalbari and at Dangtol in Bongaigaon as part of a 12-hour 'rail roko' agitation.

The agitation has been called by All Koch Rajbonshi Students Union, demanding a separate Kamatapur state, carved out of parts of western Assam and adjoining districts of West Bengal.
