Title - Railway link to Chandigarh still awaiting completion

Ludhiana:
City residents will have to wait for some more time before the Chandigarh- Ludhiana railway link becomes functional, as the construction work on the track has not yet been completed. The rail link from Ludhiana to Chandigarh is eagerly awaited by passengers, as it will save their commuting time.Railways officials said the construction work on the track is not yet complete.The Railway Safety Commission which functions under the Civil Aviation Ministry is yet to give its approval whether the newly-laid track is fit for transportation. The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) is yet to conduct trials."The patch work is still going on at the Ludhiana-Chandigarh track, so the higher authorities of the Railways are yet to invite the Commissioner of Railway  Safety", said a railway official requesting anonymity.The Railways has jumped several deadlines. Earlier, the railway officials used to claim that the trial would be conducted on March 15 and the track would be made functional by March 31.

When contacted, Williamjeet Singh, Executive Engineer (Construction), said, "I am not aware about the status of the work as I have already been transferred". Ravinder Sharma, Station Superintendent, Ludhiana, said," We are expecting that the CRS will conduct the trial in the next few days.
