Karnal :
While the Police Department boasts of launching helplines for filing complaints and switching over to online registration of complaints, there is no change in the mindset of police personnel at the field level who are as "brazen and insensitive" as ever.In a bizarre incident, which speaks volumes about the highhandedness of the police, an ASI of the Railway Police allegedly refused to lodge a complaint of theft in Karnal and minced no words in telling the complainant that a complaint would be registered only after the thief was caught and stolen goods recovered.“You give your complaint and leave your contact number with us. We will get back to you once the accused, who is unidentified, will be arrested,” the ASI allegedly told the complainant, Amit, when the latter insisted that at least the complaint should be entered in the “rojnamcha” (daily report register). The ASI said, “Kagaz kale karne se kya hoga.” (What is the use of wasting paper?)The complaint pertained to the theft of a gold chain weighing about 12-13 grams inside the railway station on May 13 when Sushma Ahuja (53) went to the railway station. While she was purchasing the ticket for Sonepat to attend a wedding, somebody stole her gold chain. However, the police was adamant that there was a possibility of the chain being lost and refused to register an FIR.
