Title - Railway Police to open Sub-Control Rooms

The Government Railway Police has proposed to set up Sub-Control Rooms on platforms and increase number of security forces for enhanced surveillance and prevention of thefts on platforms and on moving trains.Vijayawada Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Pradeep Kumar will inaugurate the Sub-Control system on the platforms here on February 11.Five control rooms were proposed in Vijayawada Railway Station and two each in Rajahmundry and Guntur stations were planned.The theme of the control rooms is to improve visible policing and respond to the incidents immediately, said Superintendent of Railway Police (SRP), Vijayawada District, Ch. Syam Prasad.

Decoy parties:The staff in the control rooms will be provided equipment for communication and a register. Passengers can alert the police, if they notice any pickpocket, thief or incidents like kidnapping, smuggling and accidents. Police will also receive complaints at the control rooms, said the SRP.Railway police are planning to increase the strength of police on running trains and on platforms.Instructions have been given to the police to keep a vigil on movements of suspects in the stations and on trains.“GRP has identified the busy trains which move during peak hours from various railway stations. Five armed police personnel including a Sub-Inspector and head constable will be deputed on moving trains to prevent robberies.

The Crime Party police will keep a tab on entry of robber gangs from other states, while the Decoy Parties will observe the offenders on platforms, waiting halls, ticket issuing and enquiry counters”, Mr. Syam Prasad explained.

Detections

As many as 56 cases, including 44 theft cases were reported under Vijayawada Railway Police district during January this year, but it was only 42 cases during the same period last year.

Police detected 41.17 per cent of the cases and recovered Rs.3.56 lakh booty last month. While the detection was 27.58 per cent during January 2012, and the recovery of property was only Rs.37,600, the SRP said.
