MUMBAI: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has been conducting drives on CR for womens’security. Between January and July this year, the RPF prosecuted 1,229 persons for illegal travel and recovered Rs 2.74 lakh in fines; five persons were imprisoned.

On Tuesday, RPF’s senior divisional security commissioner Alok Bohra met Goverment Railway Police commissioner Prabhat Kumar and discussed how staff shortage had affected security issues, including that of women commuters. Nowhere was it stated that protecting railway property and not womens’ security is the RPF’s priority, Bohra clarified.

RPF has been regularly co-ordinating with the GRP for enhancing preventive measures and apprehending criminal elements. CCTV footage, monitored by the RPF, is provided to the GRP for investigation to the GRP and has helped them solve several cases. Seven underage girls and five boys were rescued by the RPF’s Mumbai division this year.
