Title - Rs 1,500-crore rail project launched in Andha Pradesh

BHIMAVARAM(AP): Kotla Jaya Surya Prakash Reddy, Minister of State for Railways, today laid foundation stone for doubling/electrification project here in Andhra Pradesh.

The doubling/electrification project will cover Vijayawada-Gudivada-Machilipatnam, Gudivada-Bhimavaram, Narsapur-Bhimavaram-Nidadavolu sections of Vijayawada division of South Central Railway (SCR).

Addressing a gathering at Bhimavaram town station, he said the ambitious project heralds a new dawn in the region's rail transport infrastructure.

The project, estimated to cost Rs 1,500 crore, is spread over 221 kms covering 51 railway stations, he said.

Earlier, Devi Prasad Pande, General Manager, SCR, in his address spoke on the performance of SCR during the financial year 2012-13.

During the last fiscal, the zone has registered the highest-ever freight loading of 111.50 million tonnes and crossed a significant mile stone of Rs 10,000 crore in gross earnings, he added.
