Title - SCR Crosses the Milestone of Rs. 10000 Cr. in Gross Earnings During F.Y. 2012-13

Coal with 62.5 mt. constituted 56% of the total freight loading. Coal loading showed a growth of 17 % compared to 53.4 mt. loaded in the previous year. Cement with 27.6 mt. (at a growth rate of 11.8%), Food grains with 6.3 mt. and Fertilizers with 4.8 mt., constituted other major components of freight traffic loaded on SCR. The spurt in SCR’s freight loading is mainly aided by Coal from Singareni Collieries and the traffic handled at the Ports of Krishnapatnam and Kakinada.

The off take of coal by Rail from Singareni collieries stood at 32.6 mt in F.Y. 2012-13 compared to 30.3 mt during 2011-12. The Rail loading at Krishnapatnam Port was 13.05 MT (at a growth rate of 26%) and from Kakinada Port was 5.4 mt (at a growth rate of 36%). The commodities loaded at these Ports mainly comprised of Coal and Fertilizers.

SCR excelled on passenger front too. It carried 387 millions of originating passengers during FY 2012-13 ie., 10.6 lakh passengers on an average per day. The Zone carried an additional 3 million passengers in 2012-13 compared to the previous financial year. Passenger Earnings constituted 22% of the total earnings. They grew by 11% in 2012-13 to 2236 Cr. compared to Rs.2021 Cr. of the previous fiscal.
During 2012-13, SCR operated 552 Special Train services and attached 9770 extra coaches benefitting 10 lakh passengers. The carrying capacity of 22 trains has been augmented by attachment of 63 additional coaches on a permanent basis.
