Title - SRMU wins union elections

The Southern Railway Mazdoor Union (SRMU) has triumphed in the zone-level elections to grant recognition to registered trade unions and emerged as the single recognised union in Southern Railway.

   N. Kanniah, SRMU general secretary, said in a statement that the union would to work for the betterment of the Railways. The SRMU and its parent organisation, All India Railwaymen’s Federation, have placed 53 demands, including implementation of cadre restructuring and constitution of the Seventh Pay Commission, before the Railway Board and the Ministry of Railways. The SRMU and AIRF have warned of a strike if demands are not met by July 31.
