Title - Students block train at Katpadi over Sri Lankan issue

The Chennai- bound Bangalore Express was delayed by 45 minutes at the Katpadi Junction, following a rail roko by students of the Government Law College, on Thursday.

The students gathered in front of the Katpadi Railway Junction and held a rally till platform 3, around 12.15 pm and blocked the train. They raised slogans demanding a separate Tamil Eelam and an international inquiry on Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa. The students also pointed out that the Congress had been ignoring the voice of Tamil Nadu.

The students burnt the effigies of Rajapaksa, Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi. As many as 57 students were arrested and released later in the evening.

Meanwhile, members of Arcot Town Commonwealth Human Rights Kazhagam held a protest near Muthumandapam behind Vellore New Bus Stand led by district president Rajendran. The members demanded amendments in the US resolution on Sri Lanka.

Earlier, Public Works Department contractors held a one-day fast in front of the Vellore Collector’s office. Similarly a fast was observed by more than 500 persons of the public, along with their family members, at Ariyur.
