A convict in Tihar prisons, New Delhi, who was on a six-week parole, allegedly committed a criminal offence and again landed in the hands of police here on Sunday. According to Government Railway Police, the convict identified as Sathyamurthi alias Sakthi (40) of Okkur village in Sivaganga district had committed a murder of a 15-year-old girl in New Delhi in September 1995 and had escaped to Chennai. After about a week, he had surrendered before the police in New Delhi and had been serving life term imprisonment in the Tihar Prisons for the last 18 years. On November 13, 2012, Sakti had come on a parole for six weeks to visit his relatives in Sivaganga, but had not returned to the prisons. In the meantime, the accused had lifted a bag containing Rs.40,000 cash belonging to a woman in Madurai railway junction. After finding that the lady was alone, Sakthi had taken away the bag and escaped. Immediately, when the woman Pandiammal (40) of Kathavarayan Koil Street, Tirumangalam, raised an alarm, passersby and Railway Police on duty nabbed the robber. During interrogation, the accused had confessed to the crime. A senior police officer said that Sakthi had allegedly kidnapped a teenaged girl and murdered for which the court on finding guilty had awarded jail term.

He should have returned to the prisons in Delhi on January 25, when the six week parole ended.
