: The Indian Railway Board, which has approved the installation of 100 escalators in the railway stations across the country to facilitate the comfortable movement of the aged and the physically challenged, has allotted two of them to Tirunelveli Railway Junction.Informing this to the reporters here on Saturday, Divisional Railway Manager, A.K. Rastogi, after the inauguration of an additional foot over-bridge at Tirunelveli Railway Junction, said the escalators would be installed on platforms 1 and 2 here and appeal would be made to sanction one more as platforms 4 and 5 had been left out. On the delay in commencing the Tirunelveli-Dadar Express Train service, Mr. Rastogi said the non-availability of rakes had delayed the service and steps were on to get them and to introduce the train early.

Rodent and cockroach menace in the coaches of almost all trains being operated in this division will be eliminated as Rs.3 crore had been allotted for this purpose.

The DRM said that steps had been taken to get one more train to be operated in the Tirunelveli – Shencottah section considering the excellent patronage.
