During Summer Rush — 2012 (from 01/03/2012 to 19/06/2012), Northern Railway Vigilance officials conducted surprise checks at important PRS centers across Northern Railway. The location included IRCA/New Delhi, Old Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Benaras, Lucknow, Jalandhar reservation offices and other centers over Northern Railway. In addition to exclusive checks by vigilance, checks were also conducted in association with RPF & commercial department. The outcome of the extensive drive launched is as under:

Touts

Duringthe period, 614 touts were apprehended under section 143/144 of Railways Act. 1989 as compared to 556 touts, during the same period last year.

Travelling on Transferred tickets

Duringthe period, 1313 persons were detected travelling on tickets reserved in the name of other (fictitious persons) and an amount of `7,84,391 was realised as Railway dues from them, as compared to 859 cases with an earning of `5,08,024 during the same period of last year.

Unauthorised Travel Agents

Duringthe period, 13 unauthorised travel agents were apprehended under section 143 of the Railway Act as against 12 unauthorised travel agents, duringthe same period last year.

Mass contact areas

Duringthe period, 637 checks were conducted over Railway staff deployed on mass contact area especially at PRS centers as a result of which D&AR action against 177 staff is being initiated as compared to 438 checks and D&AR action against 134 staff last year during the same period.

System Improvement

As a result of the checks conducted by NR/Vigilance necessary modifications have  been done by Centre for Railway Information System (CRIS) in the PRS software which restricts the PRS operator to prepare multiple tickets in the initial hour of the opening of PRS system. Senior Officials from Commercial Department of Northern Railway have been advised to sensitise the reservation staff against malpractices in PRS.
