LUCKNOW: After the gruesome incident of a woman and her infant daughter being pushed off a moving train, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought reports from the Ghaziabad police and Government Railway Police over the deaths. The commission has issued notices to the senior superintendent of police (SSP) Ghaziabad, and the SSP of the city's railway police, directing them to submit their reports over the incident within a month. In a notice issued to the authorities, the NHRC has said, "Notices have been issued to the SSP Ghaziabad and the SSP Government Railway Police, Ghaziabad, calling for reports within four weeks." The notices were issued after the NHRC took cognizance of media reports, according to which the woman and her infant daughter were deliberately pushed off a train in the Link Road area of Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad district on May 13. The commission observed that the contents of the reports, if true, tend to "raise a serious issue of violation of human rights and safety of women travelling in trains". As per some media reports, eyewitnesses said the woman was pushed off the moving train, the police, however, is yet to establish the reason behind her fall. Officials also said that locals persons spotted the woman and her five-month-old daughter lying on the tracks near the Maharajpur railway crossing. Though both were rushed to a nearby hospital and then referred to the GTB Hospital in Delhi, the woman was declared dead on arrival, while the condition of the child is still known to be critical.
