Title - 89% voter turnout at railway trade union polls

INDORE: Elections to select a representative trade union in Western Railways (WR) concluded with 89% voter turnout in Indore on Saturday. Polls were conducted at the various railway stations coming under WR. In Indore, votes were cast for four major unions Western Railway MazdoorSangh, Western Railway Employee's Union, Pashchim Railway KarmachariParishad and Railway MazdoorSangh.The election is held in every five years as per the Supreme Court guideline for recognition of trade unions in the Indian railways. Staffers of grade C and D cast their vote to select a representing union for the term of five years. Official sources from the Indore division told out of the four unions, one will be elected as the representative trade union at each station."In Indore, on day three, of the total number of 1,170 ballots, 1,041 votes were cast. The union which will accrue a majority of 33 per cent of the votes will win the election," informed sources.

On the day one of the voting, as per PRO office sources, around 49.3 per cent votes were cast with a total number of 15313 ballots under Ratlam division, of which 7,551 votes were cast. In Ujjain, of the 1,570 ballots, 734 votes were cast. Officials of RPF did not participate in the voting.

Currently, there are two unions in the representation Western Railway Mazdoor Sangh and Western Railway Employee Union.
