Title - Alert in Kanpur after Pune blasts

KANPUR: A high alert was sounded in the city following back to back bomb explosions in Pune on Wednesday. Top district administration and police officers were on toes following the incident. While the police intensified the vigil in the busy and sensitive pockets of the city, the GRP and RPF launched a massive checking drive at the Kanpur Central railway station.

The city police also conducted checking drive at busy thoroughfares and parking lots, besides vital installations, soon after the serial blasts in Pune. SP (City) Umesh Kumar Singh said that police presence has been increased in crowded areas.

"We will also conduct drives along with bomb disposal squad to counter any such attack. We also urge people to inform police if they come across any suspicious activity or person," he added.

In the checking drive at the Kanpur Central railway station, luggage of passengers was checked and their identities were sought.

Security had been stepped up at all defence establishments, banks, bus stations, etc., keeping in view the festival season, a police official said.
