Mahanadi Coalfields Limited, often accused of low supply of coal, is now facing problems in stocking coal which is accumulating at its railway sidings in Talcher Coalfields.

The stock at the sidings at Talcher has gone up from 3.22 lakh tonnes on June 1 to 5.07 lakh tonnes on July 1 due to non-availability of rakes, a release by MCL stated.

Against an average requirement of 35 rakes per day, the average availability in June was 25.4 rakes per day leading to accumulation of stock. This has also resulted in critical stock position at the linked power houses, besides hampering the coal production in MCL.

The MCL has requested the authorities concerned to immediately  place  sufficient rakes so that the stock levels of the power houses are restored at the earliest and power generation is not hampered.
