Title - More than 9 lakh senior citizens gave up their concession in less than a year

Between July 2017 to February 2018, more than 9 lakh senior citizens gave up their railway passenger fare concession. This data was put up by Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gojain in Lok Sabha.  As per data 9.08 lakh senior citizens gave up 100 % concession while 8.55 lakh senior citizens gave 50% concession during the period.

Last year railway launched 'Give Up' scheme to generate more revenue. Under the scheme, the national transporter provided options to senior citizens to give up 50% or 100% concession provided to them while booking tickets.
