Mumbai, July 5 (PTI): The Maharashtra Consumer Redressal Commission has said the railways are not responsible for the theft or loss of luggage if it had not been handed over to the authorities against a proper receipt.

The forum said this while hearing an appeal filed by a divisional railway manager of Central Railways against an order of a district consumer forum asking him to pay Rs 1.35 lakh to a passenger for the loss of gold ornaments. The railways said the woman had not deposited her luggage with the authorities and did not take a receipt.
