Title - Surprise Checks conducted at Viskhaptnam Railway Station to Combat Ticketless Travellers

Visakhapatnam:
A surprise check was organized at Visakhapatnam railway station to detect ticket less travellers under the direct supervision of Senior Divisional Commercial Manager,  M. Yelvender Yadav. B. Ramana Rao, Divisional Commercial Manager and  P.Ch. Ramunaidu, Assistant Commercial Manager along with commercial staff and RPF.During the span of 2 hours check on the morning of 18.7.2012 about 100-cases were detected and  an approximate amount of Rs.23,000/- was realized from the ticket-less passengers,  the irregular ticket holders and for the un-booked luggage.
Waltair Division will organize more such massive ticket checking drives to combat ticket-less travel and other irregular travellers.  The intention of checks is to create awareness among the passengers traveling without proper tickets or travel authority and without platform tickets.
The defaulters for different kinds of offences and unauthorized persons in the railway station premises and on platforms/trains are dealt under section 137,138 and 139 of the Railways Act 1989 and will be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to six months or with fine which may extend to one thousand rupees or with both, according to a ECoR press release.
